Some things have been on the list forever, and some things get crossed off almost as soon as they get on the list. It ranges from a wrought iron headboard to jadeite salt shakers, to a vintage guys leather belt to sunhats (I can’t go outside in GA in the summer without getting a headache from the heat). I have a list on my phone that is my ongoing wish list from antiques stores. Again, this is in Rome, GA, 12,00 miles away from home. The cover work was so perfectly Art Nouveau that I bought them both (again for a grand total of $4) and didn’t even notice that one was from an Opera House not 20 minutes from the town in Massachusetts where I was born, and other was from a town in Connecticut 10 minutes from where my best friend currently lives. Across the street, I came across two programs from the Opera.

Granted, it was in the same town as the school, which would explain why it was there, but it was the first magazine in a stack that I picked up and it fit me perfectly. In one I found a Town and Country (one of my favorite magazines) from 1956 (the yea r my mum was born) and featuring a story about the founder of the college. Last spring, I needed a break from studying, so I went downtown in Rome (GA) and went to two different antique stores. You never know what you’re going to find in an antique store, but chances are, if you look hard enough, you’ll find something that is strangely, surprisingly personal. Even if I don’t find anything, I never consider it a waste of time. I love having an excuse to spend an hour wandering around, looking at every little detail. (“hello, can you tell me where you keep the jadeite salt and pepper shakers?” ” Yes ma’am, the third bookcase to your left next to the Nancy Drew books”) You have to spend time in an antique store, and you have to look, really look at things up close. Thanks to a stomach bug I really wasn’t up to posting yesterday, so I’m counting today as day one, with a count down of my top ten things I love about antiques, antique stores, and antique markets.įor the most part, Antique stores are not like Home Depot, there aren’t people following you around, ready to point you in the direction of whatever obscure object you’re looking for.

So, in celebration of this weekend’s market, I’ve decided to make this Antique Week here on the Untidy Mind.
#Josh rouse flight attendant lyrics meaning tv
I grew up in an antique colonial house, which I think explains my penchant for both ghosts and antiques, and this antique mart is the sort of thing I plan my life around, some people have football games, others have TV shows, I have Scott’s Antique Market… Why? because it means it’s time to travel south to Jonesboro for Scott’s Antique Market ( ). The second weekend of the month is fast approaching… and in Atlanta, that is cause for excitement.
